The Strand Hotel

Located on the banks of the Yangon River, The Strand is housed in a restored Victorian mansion that exudes history. This luxurious hotel was built in 1901. The white-washed façade, teak-framed windows and elegant interiors are newly splendid. The lobby, with its cane furniture, soaring ceilings and jasmine perfumed air, transports guests to the bygone era when Rudyard Kipling and Somerset Maugham were in residence.

High ceilings and vast spaces are among the now rare luxuries in each of our thirty-one Suites that will remind guests of times gone by in our central hotel in Yangon. Teakwood floors, hand carved wood frame beds and ceiling fans around out the colonial charms, tastefully balanced by Burmese lacquerware and antiquities in the bedroom and separate sitting area. Near floor to ceiling windows let in Yangon’s abundance of natural light during the day while our team of dedicated butlers attend to guests’ needs around the clock.

EXECUTIVE SUITE
Sunlight streams into each corner suite through luxuriously oversized picture windows, making these suites our most romantic. The spacious living area suits a conference call as well as a relaxing break for afternoon tea, or an evening’s snuggle as the tropical sun sets. Business travelers will appreciate the spacious workstation in the bedroom which features a plush king size bed. Marble counter-top bathrooms boast dual sinks and deep soak bathtub, a comfortable plus for globetrotting executives lucky enough to pack a partner with whom to share such timeless pleasures.

THE STRAND SUITE
One of a kind and after more than one hundred years still the largest suite in Yangon. A hand carved four poster bed holds court in the bedroom on teakwood floors under the soaring ceiling. Beyond, sits the intimate study, finished with fine Burmese antiques. Light streams in through the tall windows, illuminating the tropical palm fronds and fresh cut flowers dappling the sprawling living room and cosy sitting room with lacquered cane chairs. The formal dining room seats up to ten, all of whom should be forgiven for sneaking off to glimpse the master bathroom’s gold plated fittings.

THE STRAND CAFÉ
Sepia-toned photos of the country’s monks and hill tribes adorn the walls at the intimate Strand Café, serving Burmese and Western cuisine all day. Enjoy a continental breakfast, popular Mohynga noodles at lunch and, lounging in rattan chairs, house-made sandwiches and pastries during the afternoon Burmese tea.

THE STRAND GRILL
Considered Rangoon’s finest venue for Mediterranean, Asian and Continental cuisine, The Grill features 1901 colonial architecture, marble floors and stunning vaulted ceilings. For dinner, enjoy Chef Chris Parsons’ signature dish, grilled lamb chops with zucchini and wild mushrooms, while a classical guitarist plays. Reservations are encouraged.

SPA
Soaring ceilings, polished teak floors and Burmese antiques create a unique sense of place inside the Spa at the Strand Yangon. Choose from a comprehensive menu of treatments like the Body Elixir Rituals, Traditional Myanmar Massage, signature Strand Massage, Asian Foot Massage and Bathing Ritual.
